FONTANA – To say music is in his blood is an understatement for the talented young Fontana resident and NBC “The Voice” star Anthony Alexander.
Anthony has been singing virtually all his life since he was around 2-years-old. “My family is very musical and my dad played a lot of instruments in a lot of gigs as I was growing up,” said Anthony. “He took me and my mom with him to his gigs.”
Anthony, 17, is an Etiwanda High School student who is set to graduate in the spring of 2018 and go on to a music-related career. He said that he never really thought about his talent or a future career in music until a 6th-grade talent show at Summit Intermediate School. Anthony said that the reaction of the audience was enough to push him forward to try new things and most recently to try out for “The Voice”. “After watching for so long and seeing all of the great performers on The Voice, I wanted to at least see what the coaches thought and if they would turn for me,” said Anthony. “Now, I am going further than I ever imagined,” Anthony said that friends and family have been excited for him and have been very encouraging throughout the process. “My family has made a lot of sacrifices to make this happen,” expressed Anthony.
The genres Anthony enjoys most are pop, rock, and soul. He said that he was exposed to so many different types of music watching all of the bands his father played in as he grew up that he really enjoys all music. He said that he would like to encourage other young people with talent to pursue their dreams, despite any fears. “I bit my tongue off as a baby,” said Anthony. “I should not have even been able to sing or even talk very well,” Anthony said he was so young, approximately 11-months-old, that the luckily the accident did not cause any major vocal issues.
Anthony says that his experience with “The Voice” has helped him to figure out who he is as an artist.
”It has taught me a new work ethic and made me realize what kind of artist I am,” explained Anthony. He said that he would like to continue a career related to music. “I am willing to take other paths related to music.”
