COMPTON – Two men were charged with murder after a 3-year-old boy was shot dead during a shootout in a liquor store parking lot in January.
On January 20, 2018, the two gang members identified as Dwayne Ward, 30, and Kevaughn Harris, 27, were in a liquor store parking lot in the 2800 block of West Alondra Boulevard in the City of Compton when the two were involved in a verbal altercation. Harris was walking toward his vehicle, occupied by his girlfriend and her 3-year-old son, Franklin. The altercation escalated and both men pulled out handguns and began shooting at each other. Franklin was sitting in the backseat and was shot. He died as a result of the gunshot. His mother was not injured.
Both were charged with murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle and being felons in possession of firearms. Both face up to life in prison.
