BARSTOW – A six-year-old Hesperia girl lost her life after a traffic collision on the 15 freeway on Thursday night. At around 8:32 p.m. a Ford Explorer lost control between Outlet Center and Hodge Road causing the vehicle to overturn numerous times. One of the occupants was ejected, although the ejected although it is unclear if it was the adult driver or one of the juvenile occupants.
Mikayla Ramirez, of Hesperia, was found unconscious and not breathing, CPR was administered at the scene and as she was transported to Barstow Community Hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, Mikayla was pronounced deceased at 9:15 p.m.
Two other children suffered minor to moderate injuries and were also transported to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle, an adult driver was reported to be conscious at the time of transport, but sustained major injuries and was airlifted at the scene to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
The California Highway Patrol Barstow Station is investigating the collision.
