HESPERIA – A 42-year-old Hesperia man remains in critical, but stable condition after a vehicle struck him and fled the scene on Sunday evening.

At around 6:45 p.m. a vehicle versus pedestrian collision was reported in the area of Seventh Avenue and Sequoia Street in the City of Hesperia. The reporting party told dispatchers that the vehicle that hit the male pedestrian fled the scene. When deputies and emergency medical personnel arrived they located the man lying in the road suffering from major injuries.

Due to the extent of the victim’s injuries, an air ambulance was requested, with the landing zone at Desert Valley Hospital. Through investigation, deputies learned that the involved vehicle was an older model “box shape” sedan. The sedan fled southbound on Seventh Avenue according to witnesses.

“An extensive area check was conducted; however, deputies were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle,” said Hesperia Sheriff’s station spokeswoman Jackie Chambers. “With the injuries, the victim sustained the suspect vehicle will possibly have damage to the front bumper, hood, and windshield.”

The victim was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital where he is recovering from major non-life-threatening injuries. The Hesperia Sheriff’s Station is asking for the public’s help.
