HESPERIA – Authorities are urging motorists to never leave their unattended vehicle running to warm up due to the recent vehicle thefts of running vehicles.
All of the vehicles were left running and unattended by the victims at a home or business location. Early Tuesday morning, the vehicles were located abandoned, but the suspect was nowhere to be found. Through investigation, deputies learned that the cases were most likely related and while recovering one of the vehicles, Regina Deleon, 36, or Victorville, was taken into custody for the possession of property of one of the stolen vehicles. Deputies did not believe that Deleon acted alone, so the investigation continued.
A Hesperia man and Victorville woman were arrested for stealing multiple vehicles on Monday, November 20, 2017, and on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, authorities said. At around 5:40 a.m., deputies responded to the report of a carjacking in the 8100 block of Kingston Avenue near Danbury Avenue. Deputies responded and began looking for the stolen vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle in the area of Seventh Avenue and Rancho Road and felony traffic stop was initiated. Eduardo Soto, 26, of Hesperia, was driving the vehicle and stopped, complying with all officers commands. In the vehicle, Soto had a female passenger who was also taken into custody.
The stolen vehicle was also left running prior to the theft. Soto was found with possession of property linking him to the other stolen vehicles. It is believed that Soto is connected with at least three other stolen vehicles. The female passenger was released when it was determined that she was picked up after the thefts.
Due to the violent nature during the carjacking incident, and the victim receiving injuries while trying to prevent the theft from occurring, Soto was booked for P.C 664/187(a), Attempt Murder, and P.C 215(a), Carjacking. Deleon was booked for V.C. 10851(a), Grand Theft Auto.
“Hesperia residents are reminded that as the weather gets colder please don’t leave your vehicle running in your driveway while getting ready for work or in front of a convenience store while you get your morning coffee,” said Hesperia Sheriff’s Station Spokeswoman Jackie Chambers in a media release.
