HIGHLAND, Calif. – A Hesperia man was arrested after cashing $1000 worth of stolen lottery tickets on Tuesday.
At around 9:20 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a gas station in the 7900 block of Webster Street for the report of a suspicious man who just cashed over $1000 in winning lottery tickets. When deputies arrived they found a black GMC Envoy with dealer plates at the gas pumps with a covered vehicle identification number. The subject entered a second business in the same parking lot. Raymond Loftin, 30, was found in the bathroom, where lottery tickets were found inside the trash can.
Authorities learned that Loftin just cashed additional winning tickets at the business. The lottery tickets were determined to be stolen from a gas station on the 25000 block of Alessandro Boulevard in Moreno Valley during a commercial burglary early that morning. “Gloves, a sledgehammer, a surgical mask, and a large number of lottery tickets/cigarettes were found inside the vehicle. Loftin was in possession of a large amount of cash,” Sheriff officials said.
Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Highland Police Station and assumed the investigation.
