HESPERIA – A Hesperia man was arrested after pointing a gun toward deputies who were responding to a shots heard call on Thursday night.
At around 11:00 p.m. multiple reports of shots heard flooded into Sheriff’s dispatch indicating that shots heard were heard in the area of the 13000 block of Rancho Bernardo Street in the City of Hesperia. One of the callers indicated that the shooter was involved in a verbal altercation with another man and was shooting into the air.
Deputies arrived and located Rafael Garma, 41, standing in front of his home with a gun. “As deputies arrived Garma pointed the gun in the direction of a unit, but did not discharge it and then ran into his residence,” said Hesperia Sheriff’s Station Spokeswoman Jaclyn Chambers. Garma put down the gun, came out of his home and was taken into custody.
Garma was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Assault of Peace Officer with a Firearm, Shooting at Inhabited Dwelling or Vehicle, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felon in Possession of Ammunition. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon.
