VICTORVILLE, Calif. – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a High Wind Warning for Victorville and the surrounding areas.
The weather conditions are expected for Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. During these hours, winds are expected to be South at around 30-40 MPH with gusts from 60-80 MPH. The strongest winds will be along the north slopes of the San Bernardino Mountains and adjacent desert foothills the NWS announced on Friday afternoon. The winds are predicted be the strongest in the afternoon just before the Pacific storm front moves into the area. The winds at that time are expected to shift to the southwest and decrease during the evening hours.
Lucerne and Apple Valley are expected to feel the strongest winds, which may make driving difficult due to the strong crosswinds. Motorists should take additional precautions being aware of possible debris on the road. Structural and tree damage is possible and blowing dust/sand may limit visibility. The NWS describes the “High Wind Warning” as a hazardous high wind event. The warning is announced when winds are expected to be at least 40 MPH or gusts of 58 MPH or more.
On Saturday during the day the Victor Valley area should see heavy rain and highs of 54 degrees. Overnight lows will drop to around 38 degrees with scattered showers according to the NWS forecast. Those who do not need to leave
