HIGHLAND – A 48-year-old Highland man was arrested on Monday for inappropriately touching a 7-year-old child on multiple occasions. Authorities were made aware of the alleged crime at around 12:30 p.m. when a call was made reporting the child being touched inappropriately by Jose Gallegos.
When deputies arrived to investigate, contact was made with the mother of the victim who said that Gallegos touched her daughter inappropriately at least six times. Gallegos was at the victim’s home at the time and was taken to the Highland Station for interview and was subsequently booked into the Central Detention Center. He is being held in lieu of $350,000 and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday at the San Bernardino Superior Court.
“Jose Gallegos is known for walking around the neighborhood and selling items he buys from various yard sales,” Sheriff’s officials said. “Gallegos befriended the family after selling the victim’s mother some items.” Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are asking for anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact the Highland Police Department at (909) 425-9793.
