RIVERSIDE – A good deed, a necessary service, or a perverted scheme to gain access to women and children for sex?
A Highland resident was arrested last month after placing a Craigslist ad offering “sex tutoring” services. The ad stated that he would provide these lessons to females of any age, and his lessons would be tailored based on the experience of the customer. The online ad heading reading, “Sex Lesson, Sexual Tutoring, Sex Training, Sexual Education, Sex ed,” offered services to both young and old.
Jacob Aaron Schaffran, 20, was made contact with online by an undercover law enforcement officer in November, who posed as the mother to a 12-year-old girl that she wanted training for. The “mother” said that she wanted training for her fictional 12-year-old daughter named “Robin”. Schaffran told her that her age was not an issue and that he would have sex with the child for $100. He also said that he had taught two other girls, and that the lack of sexual experience would not pose a problem. After numerous email, text, and phone conversations the two continued with a meeting plan. The meeting was to take place at a Riverside fast food restaurant on December 5th. Schaffran arrived as planned to meet the undercover law enforcement officer, posing as the mother of the fictional 12-year-old girl.
Ready to meet the girl, Schaffran brought condoms and a rose for the child. During the meeting, Schaffran reiterated his intention to have sex with the minor for a payment of $105 and was subsequently taken into custody. Schaffran faces charges of sex trafficking of a child and use of the internet to attempt to induce a minor to engage in the criminal sexual activity. He was released on $115,000 bond the day after his arrest and is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. If convicted, Schaffran can face 15 years to life in prison; with the minimum sentence for sex trafficking of a child is 15 years in prison and the minimum for enticement of a minor being 10 years in prison.
The investigation, in this case, is being conducted by the FBI and the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Internet Crimes Against Children/Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Team.
