ALTADENA – A 28-year-old Los Angeles woman and her tiny Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) mix dog, “Pippa” were rescued without injuries after slipping off of a trail Saturday evening. The woman was not injured but was unable to climb back out. She tried to hike out using different routes using maps that she brought with her. She also had heavy overnight camping gear, which mad getting out difficult.
At around 7:30 p.m. the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Montrose Search and Rescue was called by the Los Angeles County Fire Department to assist in the search of a hiker that was reported missing in the Angeles National Forest.
A Sheriff’s helicopter responded to the scene and located the female hiker just north of Dawn Mile in Millard Canyon. The are the woman was in required a hoist rescue which was successfully performed, rescuing her and her dog. The two were flown to Farnsworth Park in Altadena. The woman and 3.5 pound “Pippa” were driven back to her vehicle, which was on Highway 2 near Switzer Campground.
