JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – A 55-year-old Riverside man is dead as a result of a hit and run traffic collision.
On Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 4:36 a.m., officers from the Jurupa station responded to the area of Van Buren Boulevard just north of Jurupa road after receiving a report of a man lying in the roadway. The male victim was suffering from obvious trauma consistent with being the victim of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Deputies pronounced the victim, Robert Thurmond, deceased at the scene at 4:40 a.m.
Through investigation it was learned that Thurmond was running across Van Buren Boulevard from the Chevron Gas Station, when an unknown vehicle struck him and fled the scene. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
