VICTORVILLE – A 36-year-old homeless man was arrested after attempting to kidnap an 11-year-old boy.
On Thursday, July 12, 2018, at around 4:36 p.m., two boys, the 11-year-old and a 14-year-old flagged down a Sheriff’s Service Specialist in the area of Avalon Drive and Inyo Street in the City of Victorville. The boys told them that they were riding their bikes near Avalon Park when the suspect, later identified as Ronald Selby, in a blue van approached them. Selby got out of the vehicle and grabbed the 11-year-old by the shoulder but the boy was able to run away. Selby went back to his van and fled the area. An area check was conducted, but they were unable to locate Selby or the van that he was driving.
On Friday, July 13, 2018, while patrolling near Fresno Street and Don Court, a blue 1992 Chevy van that matched the suspect vehicle in the attempted kidnapping was seen. Deputies made contact with Ronald Selby, who was positively identified as the suspect. Selby was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Attempted Kidnapping. Authorities believe there may be other victims.
