Human Remains Found In Angeles National Forest Connected Missing Person Case

Human remains located in the Angeles National Forest on Wednesday sparked a homicide investigation officials said.  The remains were discovered  following the Tuesday report of skid marks on Angeles Crest Highway made by a CalTrans worker.

Sheriff’s personnel responded and located an SUV around 500 feet down the side of Angeles Crest Highway. Search and Rescue personnel responded to the scene and inspected the vehicle. According to authorities, the SUV appeared to have been there for an extended amount of time.

After a vehicle identification number (VIN) search was done, the vehicle was learned to be connected to a 2014 Los Angeles Police Department missing person investigation.

The search resumed on Wednesday morning during which time crews located the human remains not far from the vehicle near Angeles Crest Highway near Mt. Wilson.

Coroner’s officials responded to the scene to collect the remains to determine the identity and cause of death. The skid marks were later determined to be caused by an unrelated traffic collision.
