RANCHO CUCAMONGA – The second death in only one week at the West Valley Detention Center, and the third at a San Bernardino County was reported on Saturday. David Damits, 72, was found by a jail deputy hanging from a top bunk in his single-man cell at around 12:25 a.m. The deputy immediately cut him down and began CPR. Medical staff arrived shortly after and took over efforts to save Damits life.
Damits was pronounced dead at the scene. David Damits was part of a JBTC- Jail-based Competency Treatment Program and was transferred from Los Angeles to San Bernardino County on February 17, 2017. His death is suspected to be suicide, but as part of jail protocol and death investigation is being conducted.
