In March 2017, in order to combat the serious crimes associated with the Westside Verdugo Criminal Street Gang authorities began investigating to identify gang members and associates. The goal was to not only identify those involved, but to disrupt the illegal activity of the gang.
The Westside Verdugo Criminal Street Gang is a San Bernardino County gang whose members were involved in crimes such as murder, major assaults, gun trafficking, the sale of illegal narcotics and human trafficking. Through investigation, numerous crimes including robbery, carjacking, and major assaults were prevented. This gang also was learned to be controlling the criminal activity within the California State Prisons.
As a result of the investigation, 86 arrests were made (81 felony and 5 misdemeanors), 43 firearms were confiscated (5 assault weapons, 30 handguns, 3 rifles, 5 shotguns), nearly 5000 rounds of ammunition were located, 22 pounds of Cocaine, 4.7 pounds of black tar heroin, 402 pounds of marijuana, 112 pounds of methamphetamine, $29,600 in cash, and four stolen vehicles. Five crimes were prevented by law enforcement investigating.
The following law enforcement agencies were involved in this operation; California Department of Justice, California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, San Bernardino Police Department, Fontana Police Department, San Bernardino County Probation, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.
