RIVERSIDE – Riverside police received a Lo-Jack alert Wednesday morning indicating they were in the area of a stolen vehicle. At around 9:30 a.m. a Problem Oriented Policing Officer (POP) received the alert in the area of Park Avenue at 10th Street. A UCR Police officer was next to receive the signal on 1st and Chestnut Streets.
The signal led police to surveil the vehicle. A while later, they witnessed the male subject get into the vehicle and drive south on Chestnut Street. The driver went into a Chestnut Street driveway and subsequently collided with a parked vehicle and fled on foot. A perimeter was set up and aerial and K-9 support was called in to assist. K-9 “Noran”, a 6 year old Malinois dog who has been a police service dog for nearly 4 years got to the scene. During a yard-to-yard search, Noran apprehended the-the suspect. A large folding knife was located in his possession.
The suspect later identified as 22-year-old San Bernardino resident, Abraham Ramos was arrested and taken to a local hospital before being booked into jail for auto theft, possession of stolen property, possession of illegal drugs and hit & run.
