LAKE ELSINORE, Ca. – A 48-year-old Lake Elsinore area transient was arrested for arson after starting a vegetation fire while the Tejana fire burned.
On Thursday, September 5, 2019, at around 12:35 p.m., Lake Elsinore deputies responded to Lakeshore Drive and Gunnerson Street for the report of a fire. Several witnesses reported seeing a man running from the location of the fire. An area search was conducted and Rene Chavez was located. Deputies learned that Chavez was on probation for an unrelated arson and had a felony warrant for arson-related charges.
Chavez was arrested for arson, with a bail enhancement for committing arson during a State of Emergency related to the Tenaja fire. Chavez is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
