LAKE ELSINORE – A landlord and tenant dispute led to a shooting on Friday afternoon authorities said. At around 3:15, officers from the Wildomar Police Department responded to a call reporting an argument that was escalating. When they arrived at the multi-resident residence located in the 21800 block of Waite Street they learned that the landlord, who was armed with a firearm and knife was attempting to unlawfully enter the home and threatened to harm the occupants.
When officers arrived the suspect was nowhere in sight, but he has located shortly after, still armed with the firearm and the knife. Officers commanded the suspect to surrender, but he refused and began shooting toward the residence. The suspect stopped, then again pointing the firearm at the home and an officer fired his service weapon in the direction of the suspect. The suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting. The suspect was transported to an area hospital. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Suspect, Anthony Pupora, 49, of Wildomar was arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm, false imprisonment, and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. He will be booked into the Southwest Detention Center.
As part of regular department protocol in the instance of an officer-involved shooting, the officer was placed on administrative leave pending investigation. This is an active and ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
