HESPERIA – Over a month following the murder of a 26-year-old Hesperia man three people have been charged with his murder. Just after 3:45 a.m. on Friday, May 13th gunshots rang out at a Hesperia Regency apartment home on the 8500 block of C Avenue.
The male reporting party said that he was sleeping when he awoke to gunshots and heard someone running away. The man went to find out what the sound was and he found his son, Raynard Johnson on the ground in the apartment not breathing. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Homicide investigators responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Investigators believe that the murder was a botched burglary that led to the homicide. Undisclosed Items were taken from Johnson according to the criminal complaint.
On Wednesday, June 15, 2016, Lawrence Daray Wafford was located on the 11700 block of Alameda Street in Lynwood. Wafford was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center for murder, burglary, robbery, and conspiracy to commit a crime. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Two teen girls, 15-year-old Desiree Faye Morton and 17-year-old Tajuianna Vanice Garbutt were also arrested in connection with the murder and have been charged as adults with murder, burglary, robbery, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
All three pleaded not guilty at the Victorville Superior Court on Thursday and are due back in court on the morning of July 19th. Three additional suspects, two black males, and a black female were also involved in the murder San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said. Detectives are working to identify those suspects.
