BARSTOW – A 31-year-old man was arrested after leading police on a pursuit Monday night, authorities said. At around 8:00 p.m. a deputy from the Barstow station attempted to stop the driver, Andrew Smith but he failed to stop. Smith led the deputy on a pursuit through part of north Barstow.
Eventually, Smith lost control and the vehicle became disabled just East of Riverside Road when it was stuck in soft Riverbed sand. Both Smith and his passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Smith was caught, the passenger has not been located.
The deputy learned that Smith had outstanding arrest warrants for Robbery and Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer. He was booked into the Barstow Jail and is being held without bail. He is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon.
