ADELANTO, Ca. – A man was arrested after stealing a woman’s vehicle as she stood outside of it on Wednesday evening.
At around 4:55 p.m., the suspect got into the woman’s running vehicle as she stood by it and drove north on US Highway 395. The woman’s husband followed the suspect and flagged down deputies. They attempted to stop the suspect, later identified as Jose Omar Amaya, 30, of Pacoima, accelerated in an attempt to evade.
Amaya drove in excess of 120 mph, ignoring traffic signals, nearly striking a pedestrian on the side of the road. He eventually stopped and was taken into custody. Jose Omar Amaya was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for Grand Theft Auto and Reckless Driving. He is currently being held in lieu of $100,000.00 bail.
