DESERT CENTER – A 51-year-old Laveen, Arizona man was arrested after getting into a collision in Desert Center on Friday morning. At around 7:20 a.m. CHP officials said that Thongginh Khemphomma was driving a 2005 Nissan Sentra westbound on the I-10 east of Dillon Road when he allowed the vehicle to travel to the left into the center divider and over an embankment.
The vehicle overturned killing an unidentified female passenger, later identified as 73-year-old Sim Khemphomma of Mountain Lake Minnesota.
Thongginh Khemphomma was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. While at the hospital he was placed under arrest for suspected DUI. He was released from the hospital and was booked into the Indio jail. The left lane of the I-10 was closed for several hours for the investigation. The incident investigation is ongoing.
