WHITTIER – A man was charged with attacking his wife with a chainsaw in front of their three children at the Whittier home last week.
Los Angeles County prosecutors said that Alejandro Villegas, 32, is facing seven counts including; attempted murder, aggravated mayhem, driving or taking a vehicle without consent, hit-and-run driving resulting in property damage, and three counts of child abuse. Villegas is scheduled for arraignment on Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Los Angeles Superior Court in Bellflower. Bail is requested to be set at $1.38 million.
On Wednesday, July 11, 2018, prosecutors said that Alvarez attacked his wife with the chainsaw in their home in the 7700 block of Milton Avenue in the City of Whittier. Villegas then fled from the scene using his wife’s vehicle. His wife was rushed to the hospital with major injuries as a result of the attack. While fleeing, Alvarez struck another vehicle in Santa Fe Springs then fled the collision on foot. He located another vehicle which was running nearby and fled in the stolen vehicle. The following day he was located in Chula Vista and arrested.
Alvarez, if convicted, will face up to life in prison.
