SAN BERNARDINO – A crash caused by a suspected drunk driver led to the death of one person and the injury of three others. On Saturday, May 26, 2018, at around 11:45 p.m., Salvador Joaquin, 23, of Santa Ana, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze on the 15 freeway heading south, just north of SR-138. Joaquin verred right and struck the back of a 2007 Nissan Xterra.
The Nissan, which was driven by Rosemary Goytia, 42, of Pomona, with three passengers went out of control and struck the guardrail on the shoulder of the freeway. The Chevrolet was near the scene but Joaquin was not there. Joaquin was located at a gas station nearby and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury/death. Goytia, and two passengers; Loraine Marquez, 20, of Chino, and Wally Marquez, 24, of Chino were transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
The identity of the deceased person is being withheld until the family can be notified. Anyone with any information regarding the collision should contact Officer Wheatley at the San Bernardino CHP at (909)383-4247.
