HESPERIA – A 24-year-old man was arrested for animal cruelty after injuring a small dog on Sunday morning.
On September 16, 2018, at around 8:45 a.m. Manuel Villanueva, went to the Hesperia home of a woman who has an active restraining order against him. While on the property in the 16200 block of Vine Street, Villanueva began yelling at the woman. “Villanueva then picked up victim’s small puppy, which weighs approximately 2 pounds, held it above his head, and then forcefully threw the puppy onto a concrete slab,” said Hesperia Sheriff’s Station Spokesman Edgar Moran. “The puppy suffered serious injuries and possibly had a shattered rear leg.”
Animal Control responded to the scene and took the puppy to a veterinarian for treatment. Villanueva was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Animal Cruelty and for Violating the Restraining Order. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
