HOLLYWOOD – A 33-year-old man was charged today for the sexual assault and attempted murder of an 80-year-old Hollywood woman last month.
The woman was at her apartment in the 1700 block of North Ivar Avenue when someone knocked at the door on June 18th. The woman opened her door and the suspect, Marcus Datwione Peete allegedly forced his way into her home, pushed the woman into her bedroom and began beating her.
As the elderly woman attempted to fight back, Peete sexually assaulted her while punching her several times. He then fled on foot from the location and was arrested near Crenshaw and Olympic Boulevards the following day.
The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Peete is facing one count each for attempted murder, assault, sexual penetration by a foreign object and first-degree burglary, person present. If convicted as charged, Peete faces up to life in prison.
