SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A pedestrian died after being struck by at two vehicles on the 215 freeway in San Bernardino.
At around 9:49 p.m. the California Highway Patrol received numerous reports of a black man running naked across the lanes of traffic on the 215 North near Auto Center Drive.
The reporting party said that the man ran from the right side of the northbound lanes to the center divider and back several times. Eventually, the man jumped over the center divider to get into the southbound 215 freeway. He continued running through lanes of traffic and then suddenly ran in front of a semi-tractor trailer and was narrowly missed, according to CHP incident logs.
Through investigation, it was learned that Chassandra Montanez, 28, of Colton, was driving a 2004 gray Audi A6 southbound on the 215 freeway at Auto Center Drive. The Audi struck the 30-year-old San Bernardino man. As his body landed on the ground, Shawntae Smith, 31, of Victorville, was driving her 2003 White Toyota Camry southbound in the same area. The Camry also struck the pedestrian who was lying in lanes of traffic. The driver of both vehicles stopped on the right shoulder area. The man was confirmed to be deceased at the scene by medics.
At 9:54 p.m. all lanes of the freeway were closed to traffic in the area for several hours. The Coroner was called to the scene to collect the body of the deceased man. No other information is available at this time. Information will be updated as it is received.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office.
