MOUNTAIN PASS – The man killed in a Baker area traffic collision Monday evening has been identified by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Department.
Joseph Chu, 57 of Santa Ana was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on the I-15 near Mile Marker 166 in Mountain Pass. Chu was driving a 2003 Toyota Sequoia southbound on Interstate 15, when for reasons still under investigation the vehicle left the roadway, struck a cement culvert and came to a rest on the northbound lanes.
The female passenger in the vehicle was transported to a Las Vegas area hospital for the treatment of injuries. The collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
