VICTORVILLE – A Barstow resident, who was released on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and has a criminal history with nearly 40 previous arrests terrorized numerous people at and in the area of the Victorville Superior Court.
On Thursday, June 21, 2018, at around 8:50 p.m., numerous 911 calls were made reporting that a subject, later identified as Desmond Simon, 38, was shooting a gun into the air near Civic Drive south of Roy Rogers Drive. When deputies from the Victorville Station arrived, they learned that Simon had gone inside the Victorville Superior Court with a screwdriver. He pushed passed a janitor who landed on the ground. He continued toward a gun locker, which he forced open and proceeded to steal a firearm. He made contact with a second janitor and pointed the firearm at him threatening to take his life. He then left the courthouse.
Simon made contact with a female victim who was at her vehicle. He pointed the gun at her and told her to open a business at the MGR Service building. When the woman failed to comply with his demand he shot into the door. The woman ran from the area to safety. Simon was able to force entry into a business when another victim saw him inside. He chased the woman, but she got into her vehicle and drove away just after Simon struck her vehicle with the bottom of the gun. He then walked away from the business.
Deputies arrived to find Simon shooting into the air. They gave him commands, which he complied with he was taken into custody without incident. The firearm, which belonged to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was recovered. Simon was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, criminal threats, commercial burglary, illegal discharge of a firearm, and PRCS hold. Sheriff’s officials said that Simon is a documented gang member, who since 2001 has been arrested around 38 times. The arrests were for various charges with some being for violent crimes
Any additional victims or witnesses of the crimes are urged to contact the case agent, Detective Scott Nobles, at (760) 241-2911.
