HIGHLAND – A San Bernardino man was arrested for an April 2016 shooting of a Highland couple killing the husband, officials said.
On the morning of April 16, 2016 Highland station deputies responded to the 25900 block of Baseline Avenue for the report of a shooting at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, deputies located the husband and wife, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The couple was transported to the hospital where husband, Kirk Savala died as a result of the gunshot wounds. Donna Savala survived her injuries and was released from the hospital.
Early in the investigation deputies determined that the Savalas were not intended to be the targets to this shooting. They learned that they were just in close proximity to where a dispute occurred and were struck by stray bullets. The suspect quickly fled the area and deputies were unable locate him.
Less than a week later on April 22nd, Homicide investigators identified 21-year-old Jovan Meeks as the suspect in the shooting. They obtained an arrest warrant or Meeks with $2,000,000 bail.
On Monday afternoon at around 2:00 p.m. Meeks was arrested in Las Vegas Nevada for the murder of Kirk Savala. He is being temporarily being held in Clark County where he will be extradited to San Bernardino County.
