CABAZON – A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Cabazon on Saturday night. At around 9:30 p.m. deputies from the Cabazon station responded to the report of a suspicious person near a business in the 48600 block of Seminole Road. Deputies responded to the scene and located the suspect. The suspect fled east on Seminole Drive crossing the I-10 freeway onto Malki Road.

Deputies including a sheriff’s helicopter set up a perimeter and again located the suspect near Johnson Lane authorities said. The suspect continued to evade deputies or comply with their commands. While attempting to take the suspect into custody and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The name of the suspect is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The deputy was placed on administrative leave per protocol. No other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.
