SONORA, Calif. – An Oakdale man was arrested after a vehicle he allegedly stole became disabled on Monday.
Authorities said that a concerned citizen called to report a suspicious vehicle at around 5:00 p.m. Sonora Police responded to the 400 block of Stewart Street in Sonora, a city Tuolumne County, to investigate the report of a disabled vehicle in the roadway. Officers arrived and attempted to make contact with Joshua Steven Ryan. Ryan fled on foot from the area, leading officers on a foot pursuit toward the downtown area of Sonora. Ryan was quickly caught and taken into custody for resisting arrest.
Through additional investigation, it was learned that the 2003 Honda Element was reported stolen by Ryan from a home on Stewart Street. “Although Ryan was able to get the vehicle out of the victim’s driveway, he was unsuccessful at driving it from the immediate area,” said Sonora Police officials. Ryan was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for vehicle theft and resisting arrest in addition to his two Oakdale misdemeanor warrants. He is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail and is being investigated for another theft that occurred earlier the same day.
