HESPERIA – The man who died as a result of a Wednesday night traffic collision has been identified by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner.
At around 11:25 p.m. deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff’s Department and paramedics responded to a head-on traffic collision near Peach Avenue and Cherry Street involving a 2001 Honda and a 2015 Nissan. When they arrived they found Michael Duarte, 34, of Hesperia, trapped inside the Honda. Upon further investigation, they determined that Duarte had died as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash.
A woman and female juvenile sustained major injuries as a result of the collision and were airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment. Investigating deputies learned that the Honda was driving south on Peach Avenue when for unknown reasons Duarte crossed over the double lines into the northbound lanes slamming head-on into the Nissan. Authorities have not yet determined if alcohol or speed were a factor in the collision.
