BLOOMINGTON – The incident appeared to be a tragic fire that took the lives of a Bloomington family on Wednesday morning.
It was around 7:30 a.m. when a 911 call was made to report the fire at the home in the 17900 block of Santa Ana Avenue. The neighbors told responding San Bernardino County Firefighters that they had reason to believe that the family was still inside the home. Without hesitation, the firefighters forced entry into the home in hopes that they can save the lives of those inside the home. Smoke billowed out from the front of the one-story home.
Inside they found 35-year-old Katrina Gonzalez unresponsive towards the front of the home. Her lifeless body was pulled from the smoke-filled home and efforts were made to save her life at the home, en route to the hospital and at the hospital where she was ultimately pronounced dead. Further inside the home Eric Gonzalez and a small girl were located, both were deceased. Firefighters believed their search was over until after the fire was extinguished and a second child was found. The girls, Priscilla, 8, and Beatrice, 6, were both deceased. Soon after investigators determined that the incident was “suspicious” in nature, later it was revealed that the entire family suffered gunshot wounds before the fire was started.
Firearms were inside of the home and through further investigation, it was determined that the gunman, who killed his entire family and then turned the gun on himself was Eric Gonzalez. Soon after family members of the four gathered at the home, clearly and understandably shaken by the incident the incident that took the lives of their loved-ones. Still in complete shock and attempting to cope, the family is left to bury, not one but three family members. The emotional burden is heavy, as with all deaths, especially those which are sudden. Now the family faces unexpected expenses associated with the memorial and burial of their loved ones who were taken from them far too soon.
The family of Katrina has started a GoFundMe Account to help the family in their time of need. The funds will be used for the funeral services and any other funds collected will be given to Katrina’s son, Jesse.
