BARSTOW – A former Military Police Officer with the U.S. Marines Corp. was arrested on Wednesday for having sex with an 11-year-old girl. The mother of the young girl reported the sexual assault on Sunday evening just after 5:00 p.m. authorities said.

The victim told police that she met the man, identified as Jeffrey Tyler Minter, a 31-year-old Newberry Springs man, on an adult dating site. The victim agreed to meet with Minter in January 2017. According to the victim’s statement, Minter picked the girl up from her home and took her to a local motel where the two had sexual intercourse. Detectives were able to locate additional evidence that corroborated with the victim’s statement.

The victim was also able to positively identify Minter as the suspect when shown a photo lineup. Minter was arrested on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, in the 500 block of Melissa Avenue. He was interviewed by detectives and booked into the Barstow Jail for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and oral copulation with a person under 18. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Friday afternoon.

The victim also positively identified Minter as the suspect. Minter was arrested on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, in the 500 block of Melissa Avenue.
