MORENO VALLEY, Calif. – A Los Angeles man was arrested after attempting to leave the scene of a Moreno Valley collision on Friday night.
Officers responded to the area of Sunnymead Ranch Parkway and Perris Boulevard for the report of a traffic collision. Police responded to the area and made contact with witnesses who said the driver was attempting to flee north on Perris Boulevard. They located the driver around 300 yards from the collision. He appeared to be nervous and authorities said that he appeared to be under the influence. He was identified as Alfredo Lopez, 38, of Los Angeles, and was learned to be on active parole. A search was done of the vehicle and officers located a loaded 9mm magazine, but no gun.
The Moreno Valley K-9, “Herbie” was called to the scene to assist with an search in the area. Herbie began his search in the vehicle and located a discarded knife around 100 yards north of the collision. Eventually, during his search, he located a 9mm semi-automatic firearm not far from where Lopez was found. Lopez was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, violation of parole, and felon in possession of a firearm.
