RANCHO CUCAMONGA – Five teens were arrested after leading deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga station on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle on Friday. At around 7:41 p.m. deputies received an Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) hit of Volvo, which was stolen from Desert Hot Springs. The vehicle was located immediately and a traffic stop was initiated, but the drivers failed to yield.
Authorities said that the driver drove erratically at speeds in excess of 80 mph. A Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) was attempted due to concern for the safety of other drivers. The PIT maneuver was not successful and the driver continued on. When he reached the intersection of Haven Avenue and Arrow Route, the vehicle collided into the center median causing it to overturn. Five teens, including one 17-year-old Perris male, two 16-year-old Moreno Valley males, and two 15-year-old Moreno Valley males were removed from the vehicle without further incident.
All were checked by medical personnel and none were found to have injuries. All five were booked into the San Bernardino Juvenile Hall for the possession of a stolen vehicle and felony evading.
