PALM SPRINGS – An Oak Hills man was rearrested for a sex-related crime only a day after he was convicted and released from jail for similar offenses authorities said.
Tyler Berthoud, 25, was just released from jail on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, after being convicted of misdemeanor sexual battery and child annoyance that occurred on October 14, 2016, in Wildomar. Berthoud was arrested after he attempted to communicate with a 13-year-old girl who reported that he had been staring at her prior to speaking to her. Later the same day, he grabbed a woman’s buttocks in an apartment complex parking lot after following her despite her clearly expressing her disinterest.
Berthoud was convicted of both offenses and was released from jail for time served. Although Berthoud was required to register as a sex offender, he was released to only re-offend only one day after his release from jail.
On August 9, 2017, just after 3:00 p.m. Berthoud was accused of peeking underneath the bathroom stall at a Palm Springs Walmart bathroom at a 13-year-old girl. The girl reported that he then entered the stall and began masturbating. The girl screamed for help causing Berthoud to exit the stall and the restroom. Another woman inside the restroom chased him out as she yelled out for additional help. As Berthoud exited the restroom at the store located at 5601 Ramon Road several people stopped him until police arrived.
Berthoud was arrested for Lewd Acts on a Child under 14 and False Imprisonment. He was charged the following day with multiple crimes including attempted lewd acts on a minor, burglary, false imprisonment, indecent exposure and child annoyance.
He is being held in lieu of $55,000 bail.
