ONTARIO, Calif. – A woman and her dog are dead after an officer involved shooting on Thursday afternoon.
Police were dispatched to a home in the 400 block of West Maple Street in the City of Ontario, for the report of a woman with a gun threatening to kill herself. When they arrived they located the woman at the rear of the home. A police helicopter arrived and located the woman standing on the roof of a small structure.
The woman was holding a machete and a handgun. A male family member attempted to disarm the woman but was unable to. Officers saw the man and woman struggling over the firearm and feared that the male may be hurt. Officers and the police K-9 went into the backyard of the home. A large dog ran toward the K-9 and attacked. The officers shot the large dog. Officers went further into the yard and noticed that the woman had a handgun and metal pipe.
The woman went toward the officers and refuse to to drop her weapons. In fear for their lives, at least one officer fired his firearm. The Ontario Fire Department responded within two minutes and provided medical treatment to the female at the scene. The female was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
A handgun, machete, and metal pipe were recovered at the scene. The police K-9 was taken to the veterinarian for his injuries. No officers were hurt during this incident. There is no outstanding suspects.
The female’s identity will be withheld till the corner provides proper notification.
