MORENO VALLEY, Ca. – One person has been arrested following a shooting that killed one woman and injured a second woman.
On Monday, September 23, 2019, deputies from the Moreno Valley Station respond to the Procter & Gamble Distribution Center located at 16100 block of Cosmos Street just after 4:00 a.m. for the report of an assault with a deadly weapon. When they arrived they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds in the front parking lot of the distribution center. One of the women was sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle unresponsive. Both were transported to the hospital where one of the victims was pronounced deceased, while the second was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
The injured victim is expected to survive her injuries. At this time, the motive is unclear. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
The business was placed on a temporary lockdown and was evacuated. Homicide investigators remain at the scene conducting an investigation. Later on Monday morning, sometime before 8:00 a.m. a suspect, identified as Moreno Valley resident, Osvaldo Zacharia, was taken into custody. Iris Avenue between Indian and Heacock streets were closed as a result of the shooting, police said. The Moreno Valley Police Department lobby was also closed on Monday morning.
