APPLE VALLEY, Calif. – One person is deceased and a second is suffering from life-threatening injuries following a traffic collision on the 15 freeway in the Apple Valley area.
On Thursday, July 25, 2019, at around 2:10 p.m., the California Highway Patrol and the Fire Department responded to a major traffic collision on the northbound 15 freeway at Stoddard Wells/Bell Mountain. When emergency medical personnel arrived they found the front end of a Charcoal Gray Dodge Ram with a trailer under the trailer of a semi-tractor trailer.
When they approached the vehicle they found that the male driver was deceased and the female passenger sustained critical injuries and was trapped in the pick up truck. The female passenger was extricated from the vehicle and was transported from the scene by air ambulance to a trauma center.
All lanes were closed while the helicopter landed on the freeway and at 3:20 p.m. one lane was reopened. A witness said that the driver was driving around 70 mph while looking down into his lap and rear ended the semi tractor trailer that was parked on the side due to mechanical issues.
The occupants of the semi tractor trailer were not injured as a result of the collision. The trailer on the semi was transporting approximately 70,000 pounds of vegetables when it became disabled, CHP incident logs said.
The traffic collision remains under investigation by the Victorville CHP. If you have any information pertinent to their investigation you can call 760-241-1186.
