HESPERIA – One man died and two women were injured in a two-vehicle collision early Thursday morning. At around 5:10 a.m. deputies from the Hesperia station responded to Hesperia Road and Santa Fe Avenue for the report of a traffic collision. While deputies were enroute to the collision, the reporting party told dispatchers that one of the vehicles, a Chevrolet sedan, was on fire and the occupants appeared to be inside.
Deputies arrived and located the Chevrolet, which was on fire with both the driver and passenger still trapped inside. The female passenger was removed from the vehicle by a deputy and another motorist. According to authorities, the woman sustained moderate to major injuries. During that time, additional deputies arrived and used a fire extinguisher to tame the flames while the male driver was pulled from the burning vehicle. The male was unresponsive, and deputies administered CPR on the male and continued to on the way to the hospital. The male victim died as a result of the injuries.
The female driver of the second vehicle, a Ford SUV, sustained moderate injuries. Both women were airlifted to trauma centers for treatment of their injuries.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Hesperia Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Hesperia Road was closed in both directions between Mesa and Eucalyptus for approximately five hours.
