SAN BERNARDINO – Central Station deputies located an illegal Marijuana Cultivation in the City of San Bernardino during an unrelated call for service officials said. After locating the cultivation, investigators from the Sheriff’s Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) and deputies from the Sheriff’s Central Station obtained and executed a search warrant on the property located at 8068 Sunnyside Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
Upon arrival, they found a man, later identified as Camilo Farias-Rodrigues was found tending to the marijuana plants in the backyard. Investigators determined that Farias-Rodrigues, a 33-year-old transient, was hired to stay on the property to care for the over 2300 marijuana plants. The plants located by investigators were in various stages of growth.
Through further investigation, it was determined that the operation was not in compliance with the California medical marijuana laws or with local ordinances. San Bernardino County has an ordinance which prohibits dispensaries including those that are mobile, delivery services and outdoor cultivation within unincorporated county areas.
Farias-Rodrigues was arrested for the Cultivation of Marijuana and booked into the Central Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $25,000. The case was sent to the District Attorney’s office who will decide on if/what criminal charges will be filed against the suspect. The property owner also may face civil or criminal charges, according to sheriff’s officials.
