PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – A 44-year-old Palm Springs man was arrested for a home invasion robbery.
The home invasion robbery occurred on Monday, March 18, 2019, at around 4:40 p.m. in the 300 block of E. Stevens Road. Authorities said that Demitri Giles entered the victim’s apartment and physically and sexually assaulted the 65-year-old victim. He then fled the scene in her 2007 Honda CRV.
The vehicle description and circumstances was broadcasted to all allied agencies. At around 8:00 p.m., officers from the Riverside Police DepartmentRiverside County’s Sheriff Department and investigators from the Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail located the vehicle in the City of Riverside. Giles was arrested and transported to Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. He is facing charges of assault with intent to rape in the commission of a burglary, vehicle theft, sexual penetration with force, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, home invasion robbery, take vehicle without owner’s consent, and elder abuse.
