PALM SPRINGS, Ca. – The investigation into the events that led to the reported bomb threat is on-going and there is not a threat to public safety related to this incident. A bomb threat at the Kimpton Hotel in Palm Springs led to a closure of the area surrounding the hotel on New Years day.
Authorities said that at around 8:30 p.m. they were dispatched to the Kimpton Hotel located at 100 W. Tahquitz Canyon Way for the report of a bomb threat. When they arrived, they closed W. Tahquitz Canyon Way between S. Belardo Road and Palm Canyon Drive. They learned that a male subject entered the hotel, told the employees that his vehicle was parked in the valet area and had an explosive device inside. The Riverside County Explosive Ordnance Detection Team responded to the area and determined that the vehicle and the area were safe.
At around 3:00 a.m. the investigation was complete and the streets were reopened. The investigation regarding the threat is ongoing.
