Bakersfield, CA. – Two parents are accused of intentionally causing the injury and subsequent death of their baby girl while she was in still in the mother’s womb.
On May 24, 2018, the mother who was just over 7 months pregnant went to the Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield to deliver the baby. During the labor, nurses noticed that the mother of the baby had severe bruising to her abdomen. The mother told medical personnel that the bruising was caused by a fall while she was at work. When the baby was born, she had a fractured skull and spinal injuries. Despite medical intervention, the small newborn girl died.
As a result of the suspicious bruising only to the mother’s abdomen, hospital staff reported the bruising and death to authorities. When questioned by police the unidentified woman told police about the fall at work. She later told them that she had asked her boyfriend to help her get rid of the baby since neither of them wanted a child. She told police that her boyfriend, who denies her account of the incident, punched and squeezed her stomach multiple times. The incident remains under investigation by the Kern County District Attorney’s office.
