VICTORVILLE – The parents of a 1-year-old child who tested positive for illegal drugs were convicted of child abuse and sentenced.
On Sunday, June 10, 2018, the couple’s 1-year-old child was rushed to the hospital emergency room after having a seizure. The child was later transported to Loma Linda Medical Center where they found that the child had illegal drugs in his system.Rebecca Landeros, 27, and Salvador Calvillo, 27, were arrested at the hospital on Monday, June 11, 2018. It is unclear how the drugs or what type of drugs were found in the child’s system. Three other children who lived in the home were removed from the home.
On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, Landeros and Calvillo appeared at the Victorville Superior Court. Initially, Landeros and Calvillo both pleaded not guilty to child abuse as a result of the positive drug test, but as part of a plea deal both changed their plea on Wednesday. Landeros and Calvillo both pleaded no contest to a single count of felony child abuse and were sentenced to 22 days in jail and 4 years of supervised probation. Both will also be required to attend Narcotics Anonymous/Alcoholics Anonymous.
