SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A 57-year-old Pasadena man was struck and killed while walking on the 210 freeway median on Wednesday, May 29, 2019.
At around 11:26 a.m. the pedestrian, who authorities have not yet identified, was walking eastbound in the median, toward Highland Avenue. A 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by Juan Carlos Ortiz, 47, of Chino, was driving eastbound, also toward Highland Avenue. The tractor trailer slowly exited in the #1 lane, and the pedestrian lost balance. He fell backwards into the #1 lane between the left rear trailer tires, CHP officials said. The pedestrian died instantly at the scene as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased man is not being released so that his family can be properly notified.
