CAJON PASS – Traffic came to a halt on the I-15 north, just south of Kenwood Avenue on Thursday after a pedestrian was struck and killed.
Shortly after 1:00 a.m. a silver BMW sedan pulled over on the freeway. A male driver, Mohamad Youssef, 25, of San Bernardino got out of the vehicle and went to get something out of the trunk. A 59-year-old Oak Hills man was driving a Hyundai northbound at the same time and struck the driver of the BMW. The pedestrian was tossed into lanes of traffic and was not moving, according to witness reports.
The #1, #2, and #3 lanes of traffic on the I-15 northbound were blocked at the collision site. Firefighters arrived at the scene of the collision soon after the report was made. At around 1:20 a.m. San Bernardino County Fire paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Freeway traffic was diverted to the bypass lanes. The location of the vehicle and the pedestrian at the time of the collision remains under investigation.
